    Description

    The Preservation Society of Newport County seeks part-time retail Sales Associates to work up with 30 hours per week, including a mixture of week and weekend days including some holidays.

      

    The Sales Associate will provide friendly and efficient customer service at any PSNC Mansion Store, including Bannister’s Wharf, located in beautiful downtown Newport. The Sales Associate will assist visitors in explaining different merchandise items, making suggestions for merchandise, purchases and completing the sale accurately and efficiently. Paid parking is available for those working at Bannister’s Wharf.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

    • Greets visitors in a friendly and caring manner making them feel welcome.
    • Unpack merchandise and restock displays.
    •  Assists the visitor in identifying his/her merchandise needs by asking questions as outlined in training.
    •  Accurately operate cash register, credit card machine, and maintain cash drawer.
    • Complete daily sales forms, prepare deposits to send to PSNC Annex, count, and balance cash drawer, and open/close according to procedure.
    • Alert Supervisor to any problems in the daily operation and any dissatisfied visitors.
    • Ability to open/close store according to procedures including key holding.
    • Maintain and restock merchandise and supplies used in the daily operation.
    • Perform light housekeeping to include cleaning of glass, sales counter, and general work area.
    • Perform other related duties as required or directed.
    • Follow prescribed safety and health rules, regulations, and practices.

     

    Requirements

    A desirable candidate will possess the following:

    •  High School Degree or equivalent.
    • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities. 
    • Excellent written, verbal communication and organizational skills. Basic computer skills, familiar with POS systems.
    • Maintain a professional experience.
    •  Ability to maintain flexible behavior and approach towards assignments and successfully operate under occasional ambiguous guidelines. 
    • Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment. 
    • Ability to operate telephone, fax machine, credit card reader and POS cash register.
    • Ability to stand for extended periods, usually 40-45 minutes per hour.
    • Ability to climb ladders and reach.
    • Previous customer service experience preferred.
    • Previous cash handling experience preferred.
    Salary Description
    $!5.00 per hour
