The City of Newport is updating one of its most important documents and students from Salve Regina University are lending a hand.

Marketing students at the university are undertaking a short-term project to help raise awareness of the updating of the city’s comprehensive plan, a spanning document that serves as a basis of the city’s priorities and vision for the future. The plan guides policies and decisions on growth, development and preservation, including decisions on land use and spending priorities for public projects.

The students are hoping to encourage more participation and highlight a survey issued by the city designed to gauge resident feedback which will be used to update the plan. One group the students hope to reach in particular are younger people, who are often underrepresented in such efforts.

The survey is fast, takes about five minutes or less to complete and gives residents a chance to share their thoughts on housing, development, cost of living, traffic and more. It asks which issues residents most prioritize addressing, what improvements should be made to increase quality of life, what residents want to see more of and more.

The survey can be taken at surveymonkey.com/r/P5MSBXP.
