    They’re Cruisin’ On In

The Silver Cloud, the seventh cruise ship of the season, visited Newport on May 11. The ship brought approximately 250 guests to explore the island.

“We are excited to welcome back cruise ships to Newport,” said Evan Smith, Discover Newport’s president and CEO. “This milestone represents a strong sign of recovery for the travel industry. These valued cruise passengers shop at our retail stores, dine in our restaurants, and experience our attractions and excursions. Once these passengers visit Newport, many return for a longer, repeat visit. We are thrilled to have the cruise ship industry back.”

After seeing almost none for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this season, Newport Harbor will welcome more than 50 cruise ships between May and November. Larger ships anchor in the harbor and tender passengers to Perrotti Park while smaller vessels dock at the South Alofsin Pier at Fort Adams State Park. Looking back, more than 100 cruise ships were scheduled to visit Newport in 2020.
