Dotting the fall landscape are dozens of whimsical scarecrows created by local Halloween fans, young and old that were entered into the Norman Bird Sanctuary’s scarecrow competition. This is the second year for the popular contest, which is likely to become an annual event. Each of these seasonal classic figures were judged in natural, scary, and funny categories. The scarecrow above took top honors in the natural category and was created by Innovate Newport. At left, the Braunstein-Niemiec family’s creature captured the award as the funniest.
