At a pop-up clinic held on April 21 at the Gateway Center, more than 400 members of the community received the Covid-19 vaccine. While anyone was eligible, the goal was to reach as many members of the BIPOC and LatinX community as possible, along with restaurant and hospitality industry workers. Dozens of volunteers and the Newport Fire Department were on hand to facilitate the process, a collaboration between the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce, the City of Newport, the RI Hospitality Association, Conexion Latina Newport, the Newport Health Equity Zone and the RI Public Transit Authority. The clinic was part of a statewide effort by the RI Department of Health to ensure equitable distribution of vaccines to high-density urban neighborhoods. All Rhode Islanders are now eligible to receive a vaccine. Appointments can be made at vaccinateri.org. (Photo by David Hansen)
