• Dock Office Ticket Sales & Concierge Services for Sailing Company

    Posted: 04/25/2024

    Full Job Description

Picture your workplace: You’re outside, working with our team, in our open-air, waterfront pavilion, less than 10 feet from the water. To the West is the harbor, with its superyachts, sailing vessels, and spectacular sunsets. Sip your morning coffee as you breathe in the fresh, salt air, and an intoxicating blend of scents wafting from nearby restaurants. You’re chatting with vacationers and guests all day. Relax when your day is over with a sail or motor boat cruise around the harbor. This is your workplace.

Sightsailing of Newport (www.sightsailing.com) has been offering sailing cruises and private charters in Newport on Bowen’s Wharf since 1990. We operate three sailing vessels and take tens of thousands of people sailing every year on sails ranging from daily Morning Mimosa and Sunset Champagne cruises to private charters with bachelorette parties, families, couples, etc.

Our Dock Office Ticket Sales and Service team plays a key role in helping ensure guests have a positive sailing experience with us. They are often the first contact that a guest makes with the company and frequently the deciding factor as to which outfitter they choose.

Your primary job is selling tickets to potential guests for our dsaily cruises and providing information about our private charters. You are also an ambassador to Newport, its spectacular harbor and local attractions. You may field questions from where the nearest restroom is to asking about dinner recommendations

Your training will include learning everything about our different boats, sails, and sales policies.

You’ll also be responsible for checking in and giving out tickets to our guests, speaking with prospective customers, selling merchandise, answering the phone, running end of day reports, helping load food and drink onboard the boats on busy charter days and assisting the manager with various administrative tasks.

Sometimes, you'll grab the camera and go out to photograph scenes. You’ll be doing all of this from our sun-protected, open-air pavilion on Bowen’s Wharf.

    Requirements & Preferred Qualities:

You should be outgoing, friendly and helpful, with a professional appearance and good communication skills. You should be reliable and punctual. Knowledge of Newport and its area attractions is very helpful.

You should be able to work a variety of morning and evening shifts. Since we’re a seasonal business and opens 7 days a week you should be able to work weekends and commit to a work schedule with no large blocks of time off required.

We prefer to hire people who can commit to our entire season from May-October. Although we do hire students who are returning to school or work in the Fall, we prefer that those people go to school or work somewhere locally and can still help out 1 or 2 days per week, into October.

Pay: You'll earn a base wage of $16-$18/hour, get a per order commission on every sale you make, and be able to earn additional weekly and monthly sales bonuses.

Perks: Fun and friendly staff. Team outings. Flexible scheduling. Sailing. Skill development.
