Full Job Description
In this position you will be able to help support families connect to positions and help employers connect with local candidates on Aquidneck Island. You will be supporting the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce and East Bay Community Action Program build their capacity to help families reach their career goals. This position is part of a National AmeriCorps VISTA program where you are dedicated a year of service to the City of Newport with a stipend and other benefits, including a cash payment at the end of your service year or funds for school/towards your school loans.
Member Duties : A VISTA member would help the Chamber team by surveying local businesses regarding the total number of employment opportunities they have and the number of vacancies that exist; contacting trade organizations and other relevant entities to determine what apprenticeship/job training programs exist as well as the number of openings and requirements for each program; and surveying higher education institutions to better understand academic requirements for various career paths. The preference will be to have a VISTA member who is a bilingual person in Spanish and English, so this position can serve as well to an increasing Hispanic population that also look for new opportunities and training to improve the conditions of living in Newport county and hence also to contribute better to the local economy.
