    COA was established in 2006 and is a growing community science environmental organization that became a non-profit organization in 2014. Located in Middletown, Rhode Island with a footprint primarily on Aquidneck Island, performing some off-island efforts to achieve our mission. Our mission is “action today so future generations can enjoy ocean activities” with a primary focus on eliminating marine debris, improving coastal water quality, and protecting and preserving shoreline access. COA is a casual and intense work environment where creativity, flexibility, and collaboration are essential and rely on planning, attention to detail, information technology, operational excellence, and continuous investments for improvements.

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Compost Services Representative will be part of the Healthy Soils Healthy Seas Rhode Island (HSHSRI) project team working to expand composting services in Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, Jamestown, and Bristol. Specific areas of focus include securing 100 restaurants and/or businesses to participate in a commercial composting collection service, leading the discovery process for creating a local market for the reuse and resale of finished compost, and any other needed project communications. The candidate will have exceptional experience and enthusiasm for sales, an interest and appreciation for customer service, and knowledge about business development. The candidate will have an interest in the project goals and objectives that focus on composting, recycling, sustainability, diversion, waste management and ocean health. This position reports to the Manager of the Project and works directly with the HSHSRI project team.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Commercial Composting:

    • Identify and cultivate new commercial composting accounts to achieve project metric goals
    • Create, build, and maintain relationships with established commercial accounts
    • Work closely with compost collection operators for optimal account experience and outcomes
    • Maintain data management of all commercial accounts in technology systems

    Reuse and Resale of Compost:

    • Advance the resale and reuse of compost as a soil amendment to reduce chemical fertilizers, carbon emissions and grow healthy foods
    • Perform discovery process for working with local hardware and agricultural stores for buying and selling local compost

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Passion for Clean Ocean Access mission
    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
    • 5+ years of sales experience
    • 2+ years of customer service experience
    • 1+ years of customer relationship management software experience, using salesforce a plus
    • 1+ years of professional application of Microsoft Office and Google Services experience

    SCHEDULE

    This is an hourly position with a minimum of 20 hours and maximum of 30 hours per week. The schedule for this position requires flexibility, as it requires working with restaurants and businesses that might operate during non-traditional office hours; mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends are all possible work hours.

    COMPENSATION

    • Starting hourly rate commensurate with experience
    • Mileage and tolls reimbursement
