    Aquidneck Land Trust is the oldest accredited land trust in Rhode Island. Our mission is to preserve and steward Aquidneck Island's open spaces for the lasting benefit of the community, while connecting poeple with the land that defines the island's natural character.
    The Aquidneck Land Trust (“ALT”) is the preeminent nonprofit conservation organization on Aquidneck Island, the largest island in Narragansett Bay and the location of the communities of Newport, Middletown and Portsmouth Rhode Island. Our work spans land conservation, watershed protection, farming preservation, outdoor recreation and more. The Communications Director guides the organization’s strategic communications plan, maintains its voice across all channels and implements communications activities spanning web, social media, media relations, community engagement, events and more. Successful team members are passionate about conservation and work well in a small, highly integrated team environment. Communications workflow is dynamic, varied and requires a broad range of skill, self-direction and collaborative leadership ability. RESPONSIBILITIES Establish and drive a multi-channel communications strategy spanning web, social media, events, public relations and other outlets. Cultivate a consistent brand voice and maintain brand integrity across all communication channels. Manage the preparation of all communications material and media through internal and external resources. Create/assist in the creation of text, audio, video and image content. Work collaboratively with development director on fundraising communication and grantwriting. Create and support engagement with media, influencers and the organization’s constituents including members and donors. Serve as a key member of the events management team. ALT events include small and large fundraisers as wells as free outreaching programming like nature walks, conservation speakers, and guest lectures to students. Conduct public engagement oriented environmental education for students and adults. Manage public outreach initiative.

    REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS • Proven work experience in a communications director or similar role. • Ability to lead collaborative communications planning processes. • Exceptional copywriting and copy-editing skills. • Experience managing digital engagement through social media, SEO and SEM best practice. • Ability to use communication technologies/platforms including MS Office Suite, WordPress CMS, MailChimp, Adobe InDesign and Illustrator. • Understand principles of graphic design, layout and publishing • Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing or related discipline is preferred. • Nonprofit organization experience is preferred. • Events management experience is preferred.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
