    Job Summary:              
    To assist in the operation and facilitation of the Girl Scout expedition programs at Camp Rocky Farm. To provide for the health and safety of the campers - always act within the framework of the Girl Scout program, policies, and standards. To fully support and actively participate in the team approach to camp management and achievement of goals. To encourage both campers and staff to live up to the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

    Position Dates:             Saturday, July 6 – Sunday, July 14 and Saturday, July 27 – Sunday, August 4

    Camp Rocky Farm - Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England 160 Carroll Ave, Newport, RI 02840


    Responsibilities:    

    • Work collaboratively with administrative staff to ensure successful programming.
    • Supports the operation of expedition programs as well as actively promotes the Girl Scout ethical code in all phases of camp life.
    • Follows trip itineraries and adheres to the time management of the group.
    • Responsible for supporting and carrying out proper expedition equipment use and training for campers to include but is not limited to, fire safety, camp stove use, tent set-up, and jackknife safety, 10 essentials, and Leave No Trace Principles.
    • Cares for the proper storage and use of expedition equipment before and after the trip.
    • Assists as needed as a driver for transporting campers in a 15-passenger van.
    • Ensures that the health and safety of campers and staff is recognized and upheld.
    • Follows established camp crisis procedures.
    • Maintains Girl Scout, State of Rhode Island, and ACA camping standards. 
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications  
    • Applicant is the age of 21 or older.
    • Can work on a leadership team as a co-leader.
    • Has demonstrated ability in leading and working with youth aged 12 – 18.
    • Holds a current driver’s license with a clean driving record.
    • Holds a current First Aid/CPR Certification or higher.
    • Uses good judgment regarding interpersonal issues and health and safety procedures.
    • Can maintain composure and direct others in crisis situations.
    • Have successful experience in planning and implementing outdoor experiences.
    • Applicant has experience hiking in 2-5 miles of uphill and rocky terrain.
    • Be able to live and work in a rustic camp setting.
    • Be a current member of the Girl Scout movement and accept the beliefs principles and ways of work of the organization. Be interested in, know about, and be skilled in the Girl Scout programs and safety practices in a camp setting.
