    organizational background

    newportFILM, a year-round, nonprofit documentary film series, screens approximately 30 films annually, with its summer outdoors series alone attracting over 20,000 people from June through September. During the summer months, newportFILM produces free, public screening events at iconic outdoor locations in Newport and Aquickneck Island. Featuring filmmaker conversations, live music and community partnerships, newportFILM has become an important cultural anchor in the state of Rhode Island since its founding in 2010. 

    In the off-season, newportFILM screens impactful documentaries both virtually and in-person at various locations within Newport and Rhode Island. Leveraging strong local partnerships, newportFILM centers documentary film as a means to build and amplify community engagement. With its edu program, newportFILM hosts environmental screening events for middle students and facilitates a youth-powered, community-driven documentary film learning lab at the Florence Gray Center for high school aged students. For emerging filmmakers, newportFILM hosts a nationally recognized, annual cinematography lab to mentor and launch promising talent into the field of nonfiction visual storytelling.

    job description

    newportFILM is building an Event Team to set-up and breakdown for our outdoor screening events each Thursday through the 2024 Summer season (June 27th-September 5th -no screening event July 4th). Each week, we rotate venues such as; Fort Adams, Aquineck Park, Newport Polo etc. Our team has three event trucks at our storage facility located in Middletown RI, each loaded with our event equipment. The Event Staff will assist with driving those trucks to and from our venues, un-loading all event equipment, setting up the equipment, staying through the event and welcoming attendees, breaking down event equipment post-film and driving trucks back to the storage facility.

    responsibilities

    • Works with Event Lead and Event Staff to setup and breakdown outdoor Thursday screening events – loading, unloading, carrying supplies, & setting up pop-up tents, activation areas, parking areas & various hospitality logistics
    • Manages assigned tasks and duties each week as directed from Event Lead and Managing Director during the event
    • Available and able to drive event truck to and from storage unit to event venue location

    classification

    Applicants should be proficient in all aspects of event logistics or film festival logistics and must be dependable and a quick learner.

    Experience operating large vehicles preferred but not required.

    Must have own transportation.

    This temporary position is in person from June 27 – September 5 2024. Hours approximately 20-10 hours per week, multiple positions available based on availability. THURSDAY ALL DAY AVAILABILITY IS REQUIRED. Thursday hours are 1pm-11pm. Some Wednesday & Friday hours are available as well.

    – newportFILM Summer Benefit, July 6, 2024 at IYRS, 1:00PM – 9:00PM, Clean-up Summer Benefit July 7th at IYRS, 9am-12pm – Availability on these days are required

    In-person, Newport, RI. The summer outdoor festival is located on the beautiful Aquidneck Island, locations for each screening event change weekly. newportFILM does not provide housing or transportation.
