• Estate Gardener

    Job Summary:               This position assists in planning and maintaining gardens at several NRF properties, including Rough Point, Whitehorne House and 51 Touro Street. Responsibilities include maintaining ornamental features within the gardens, to the highest standard and using organic gardening techniques. Work is performed as part of a crew or independently. Ability to work in all weather conditions.
                                                                                                                                                                                               
     
    Specific Responsibilities:
     

    • Check gardens for health-related issues daily and address in a timely manner.
    • Perform typical gardening tasks including but not limited to planning, planting, transplanting, pruning, fertilizing, weeding, deadheading, mulching, edging, staking, amending soil, watering and organically managing pests, diseases and invasives.
    • Maintain gravel paths at Whitehorne House by periodically adding gravel and keeping paths weed free.
    • Work with other Grounds and Gardens crew as directed.
    • Attend professional development lectures; garden tours, and classes to improve knowledge base.
     
    Qualifications:
     
    • Two or more years of horticultural experience with in-depth knowledge of plant culture, maintenance, and identification.
    • Degree/Certification in horticulture or related field preferred.
    • Ability to work in all weather conditions; lift and carry 50lbs. minimum; bend, stoop, climb and work from ladders.
    • Proficiency in organic gardening techniques.
    • Personal qualities of a strong work ethic, attention to detail and ability to work efficiently.
    • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
