Chelsea Bruner, Professor of Art History & History of Design, Ringling College of Art + Design Tuesday, May 22, 6:00 p.m., Rosecliff Presented by The Preservation Society of Newport County Explore New York City's landmark Seventh Regiment Armory, the purpose-built, privately funded headquarters for the city's most elite volunteer militia, completed in 1880. Today it is a rare surviving masterpiece of Aesthetic movement design with interiors by some of the most prominent designers and artists of the day including Herter Brothers, Pottier & Stymus, and Louis C. Tiffany. Dr. Bruner will share insights into the building's commission and design and how it reveals new ways of understanding how aestheticism functioned for elite patrons in the Gilded Age.
