Wavemaker Fellowship Program - February 2021 Update

    Tax Season Is Upon Us!

Each year, there are a lot of questions regarding your Wavemaker Fellowship award and your tax filings. As we approach tax season, here are some things to keep in mind:

Please note: the RI Division of Taxation and Rhode Island Commerce do not have any relationship with software systems that allow you to file your own taxes, and cannot guarantee that they account for the Wavemaker Fellowship program correctly. For questions or guidance, we strongly suggest discussing your situation with a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Fellows April Arruda and Alexandria Pacheco (CPAs and Members of the RI Young Accountants Network), prepared some great guidance documents for Wavemaker Fellows regarding taxes. You can find the presentation and the one-pager that they created on the Fellows Hub, on the bottom of the Documents & Resources page. Click here to access that pageNote: you may be prompted to login to your Wavemaker account before you're able to access it.

Or, re-watch the session they hosted in January here if you missed out!

    Certification Updates

First and foremost- thank you for your patience! Fellows from the 2018 and July 2019 cohorts who have not yet received your certification should be receiving it very soon. Fellows from the December 2019 cohort should submit their certification documents to the portal as soon as possible for review.

When your certification is complete, you will receive an email from wavemaker@commerceri.com indicating that your award letter & tax form have been dropped in the mail and are en route to you.

Once you receive that letter, you will complete the tax form and send it into the Division of Taxation to let them know how you would like to receive your award. Any questions about the status of your payment or your certificate can be directed to tax.credits@tax.ri.gov.

    Mark Your Calendars

If you have an event, conference, meeting or other opportunity on your radar that you'd like to get involved in, and think other Fellows might benefit too, let us know! We can help publicize the opportunity and can consider how to get spots for Wavemaker Fellows to attend!
