Press Release: Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce commences new event series: Conversations with Women of Distinction

Newport, RI- The Greater Newport Chamber began its newest event series: Conversations with Women of Distinction on Thursday, January 11th, welcoming Elizabeth Lynn, Executive Director of the van Beuren Charitable Foundation to a group of local business and nonprofit leaders, business owners, and entrepreneurs.

The series, sponsored by Newport This Week, will feature a fireside chat with Erin Donovan-Boyle, CEO of the Chamber, and a woman of distinction from the Greater Newport Region (entrepreneur, businesswoman, elected official, community leader, or author) each month at Innovate Newport. Each conversation will be different, but all will give insight to various careers, pathways to leadership, tips to consider, and tricks of the trade. Guests will have an opportunity to ask questions and dialogue with speakers. Continental breakfast will be served and networking will take place.

    Upcoming guests include:
February 8: Cristina Offenberg, Esq. Silva, Thomas, Martland & Offenberg, Ltd.
March 7: Crista Durand, President, Newport Hospital
April 4: Gail Alofsin, Newport Restaurant Group, Newport International Boat Show
May 9: Nellie Gorbea, Visiting Senior Fellow, Cybersecurity & Democracy, Salve Regina University
June 13: Mary T. O'Sullivan, MSOL, Encore Executive Coaching

“I’m most excited about this new series because it allows women to share their personal stories about their profession and lessons learned along their different paths to leadership.  This is incredibly valuable information for colleagues and emerging leaders; and I hope these conversations both grow our appreciation for how far women have come in the workplace, but also inspire us individually to reach new heights of influence and impact,” said Erin Donovan-Boyle, President & CEO of the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce.

"Women have become leaders in all sectors of our community. In this informal atmosphere, the speakers will share their experiences, hurdles and successes along their journey," said Lynne Tungett, publisher/editor of Newport This Week. "Attending any of the morning talks and networking opportunity will be a boost of confidence as you face your day and future."

Those who purchase tickets to the full series will receive admission to 12 events, access to an exclusive, private LinkedIn group, and a listing on Newportchamber.com. Registration will also be available for single events. This series will take place on the second Thursday of each month in the conference hall at Innovate Newport.
