NEWPORT — The Newport County Chamber of Commerce recognized several local businesses with “2012 Excellence in Business” awards Monday morning.
During a ceremony held at the Officers’ Club at Naval Station Newport, seven surprise winners were announced in a range of categories recognizing outstanding business achievement in Newport County.
Besides celebrating the success of local businesses, organizers said the goal of the event is to acknowledge the major role those businesses play in the well-being of the community.
Newport Biodiesel was selected as the “Business Entrepreneur of the Year,” with Greenvale Vineyards named the “Woman Owned Business of the Year.” Hotel Viking was picked as the “Large Business of the Year,” Tallulah on Thames the “Medium Business of the Year” and Newport Family & Cosmetic Dentistry was the “Small Business of the Year.”
Marketing & Events was picked as the “Micro-Business of the Year,” and Child & Family was named the “Nonprofit Business of the Year.”
The Chamber of Commerce Member Services Committee and past award winners handled the section of the business excellence awards winners. The Newport Daily News and Carey, Richmond & Viking Insurance sponsor the awards.
The keynote speakers at the awards ceremony were Carolyn Rafaelian and Giovanni Feroce, owner/designer and CEO respectively of Alex and Ani, the Cranston-based jewelry company.
