The Rhode Island Foundation recently launched Together RI – a new initiative open to all Rhode Islanders and designed to create space for folks to be heard, to listen, to reconnect, and to promote civic and civil dialogue.
Specifically, Together RI is a series of 20 neighborly get-togethers kicking off on March 21 and ending on May 5. Together RI will take place throughout Rhode Island at schools, community centers and other places that are well known and accessible. Each session will offer people the chance to talk face-to-face with each other over family-style meals. Every event is free and open to the public. You will see specifically that we will be in Newport on March 28.
We’d love to see you at one (or more) of the Together RI conversations, and we’d like to ask for your help spreading the word about this opportunity to your members.
Please consider sharing a link to TogetherRI.org on social media, via an email blast to your membership, or by printing downloadable posters from the website and posting them at your convenience.
The website provides information on each Together RI date, time, and location. Registration is not required but is accepted via the links provided.
Each and every Rhode Islander has a role to play in ensuring our collective success. Together RI will give us an opportunity to find out more about what that means – person to person – and how we might work together to achieve it. These conversations will be a neutral place for dialogue on topics that are critical to our common future, and a place where we hope the recent tendency toward divisiveness and polarization will be left at the door.
The Foundation’s role will be to provide the platform, and the meal, and then step back and listen carefully. Independent professional facilitators will guide the sessions and University of Rhode Island researchers will synthesize and help us share the results. Our commitment to the community, and to each participant, is to share anonymous, aggregated results broadly and without bias. Our hope is that participants will meet someone new and will leave knowing that their voice was heard.
Thank you for your support.
